Just yesterday, Gov. Bill Lee authorized the deployment of 100 Tennessee National Guard members down to our southern border where they will provide patrol support, help place barriers, and staff outposts.
Title 42, which allowed U.S. authorities to turn immigrants away at the Mexican border in the name of protecting public health, officially expired on May 11th of this year, resulting in a surge of immigrants.
The Biden administration implemented a new rule in preparation for this surge, that requires immigrants to either apply for asylum online or prove that they previously sought protection in a country they passed through in order to cross the border.
