An alleged MS-13 gang member wanted in Tennessee was arrested Friday night near New Orleans after license plate readers alerted local authorities of his location.
Because of an ongoing federal investigation, the suspect’s name has not been released, but Kenner, Louisiana Police Chief Keith Conley says police launched an eight-hour surveillance mission before arresting him with the assistance of the Department of Homeland Security.
Conley confirmed that the suspect is an illegal alien and noted that his affiliation with MS-13 heightened their response.
According to Conley, license plate reading cameras help police catch criminals who pass through the city, which is near the New Orleans International Airport.
Authorities used both marked and unmarked police vehicles, as well as drones, to monitor the suspect’s whereabouts and to apprehend him.
“We did what we had to do, and we completed the mission,” Conley said.
